Some Day I'll ...

Some day I'll .... (fill in the blank). How many do you have on your list? As we get older and time is shorter the list gets longer as we read, see and meet people who have done things that we long to experience before we die.
Some day I'll take that river boat trip down the Amazon, visit the Australian Outback, take that art history course in Florence, visit Petra, experience swimming with dolphins, be part of Rio's Mardi Gras, visit Cuba before it moves on from the time warp of the 1950's, volunteer at a childrens' orphanage in an underdeveloped country.
And yet… there is always an excuse. I don't have enough money, I will wait until the children have graduated from university and settled into their careers, my ageing parents may need me, I need to have more assets before I can think of following my dream. I need to be more established in my career. When I turn 40 , 50 or when I retire I will have plenty of time to do…..
So what do people do? They put their life on hold until the right time comes for them to do what they really want to do. Well that is their strategy anyway. And you know what? There is never a right time.
Some people have a wake up call foisted on them- a friend, relative dies unexpectedly at a relatively young age, they are made redundant/ fired/ squeezed out of an organization, the company goes into liquidation, they get divorced etc., People are scared about what their friends/family and others will think if they drop out of corporate life as their persona is wrapped up in what appears on their business card.
Suddenly putting your life on hold does not seem such a winning strategy after all.
Always remember that life is short and we do not know too much in advance how short so trash that 'Some day I'll' wish list and get cracking and design a plan of action to make that wish list a reality. Just do it. You will feel better, you will be doing something meaningful to you, it will open you up emotionally and who knows where the experience will lead you. Usually, it is to a more fulfilling life where your unique natural talents can be truly effective and appreciated.
So remove the 'but' from your vocabulary. You will be surprised how you can live on less money than you thought possible, make it last longer and still have the most fabulous time.
Commit to making the quality and the joy quotient of your life the envy of all.
Be your very best, let your heart sing every day and your smile be infectious.
And finally, work like you do not have to, love like you have never been hurt and dance like nobody is watching!!
